About This Print

Barcelona Lighthouse stands on the shore of Lake Erie in the hamlet of Barcelona, New York, near the harbor at Portland. Completed in 1829, it is the oldest operating lighthouse in New York State and one of the earliest lighthouses built on the Great Lakes. The stone tower guided vessels navigating the busy shipping routes of Lake Erie during a period of rapid commercial growth and westward expansion. Today, the lighthouse remains an important landmark along New York's Lake Erie shoreline and a reminder of the region's rich maritime heritage.
