About This Print

Blakistone Island Lighthouse stands on a small island in the Potomac River within what is now Maryland's St. Clements Island Museum grounds. First lit in 1851, the lighthouse guided vessels traveling the broad tidal waters of the lower Potomac, an important transportation route linking inland communities with the Chesapeake Bay. Reconstructed in 2008 to resemble the original screw-pile lighthouse, the structure reflects the region's rich maritime history and the distinctive engineering once common throughout the Chesapeake watershed.

This vintage-inspired Blakistone Island Lighthouse print celebrates a historic beacon of the Chesapeake Bay region. Drawing inspiration from the bold colors and clean geometric forms of WPA-era travel posters, the artwork highlights the lighthouse's unique screw-pile design, tranquil river setting, and maritime heritage. Designed for lighthouse enthusiasts, maritime historians, Chesapeake Bay travelers, and collectors of American landmarks, this piece honors a navigational landmark that reflects the enduring connection between the Potomac River and the Bay beyond.
