East Charity Shoal Lighthouse
East Charity Shoal Lighthouse stands in the eastern basin of Lake Ontario near the border between the United States and Canada. Completed in 1877, the lighthouse was built atop a submerged shoal to warn vessels of a dangerous navigation hazard along one of the Great Lakes' busiest shipping routes. Constructed as a cast-iron caisson lighthouse, it reflects the innovative engineering used to place navigational aids in remote offshore locations. Today, the lighthouse remains one of the most distinctive and isolated maritime landmarks on Lake Ontario.
This vintage-inspired East Charity Shoal Lighthouse print celebrates one of the Great Lakes' most remarkable offshore beacons. Drawing inspiration from the bold colors and simplified forms of WPA-era travel posters, the artwork highlights the lighthouse's unique caisson design, open-water setting, and dramatic presence amid the vast waters of Lake Ontario. Designed for lighthouse enthusiasts, Great Lakes travelers, maritime historians, and collectors of American landmarks, this piece captures the rugged beauty and engineering achievement of a lighthouse that has safeguarded mariners for nearly 150 years.
