Gifford Pinchot National Forest protects more than 1.3 million acres of rugged mountains, old-growth forests, volcanic landscapes, and wild rivers in southern Washington. Named after the first Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, the forest surrounds much of the iconic Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument and encompasses a diverse landscape shaped by both ancient forests and powerful geological forces.
