Race Rock Lighthouse
Race Rock Lighthouse stands on a rocky outcrop at the western entrance to Long Island Sound between Fishers Island, New York, and Little Gull Island. Completed in 1878, the granite lighthouse was built to warn mariners of the powerful tidal currents and submerged hazards that make Race Rock one of the most challenging navigation points in the Northeast. Constructed in a French Second Empire style, the offshore lighthouse is both an engineering achievement and a distinctive architectural landmark. Today, it remains one of the most recognizable beacons in Long Island Sound.
This vintage-inspired Race Rock Lighthouse print celebrates one of the Northeast's most iconic offshore beacons. Drawing inspiration from the bold colors and simplified forms of WPA-era travel posters, the artwork highlights the lighthouse's dramatic open-water setting, distinctive architecture, and enduring maritime character. Designed for lighthouse enthusiasts, maritime historians, coastal travelers, and collectors of American landmarks, this piece captures the rugged beauty and significance of a beacon that has guided mariners through the turbulent waters of Race Rock for nearly 150 years.
