Salmon–Challis National Forest

Salmon–Challis National Forest spans more than 4.3 million acres across central Idaho, encompassing rugged mountain ranges, deep river canyons, alpine lakes, and vast wilderness landscapes. The forest includes portions of the Frank Church–River of No Return Wilderness, one of the largest protected wilderness areas in the contiguous United States, as well as sections of the legendary Salmon River, often called the "River of No Return." Its remote character, abundant wildlife, and expansive backcountry make it a premier destination for hiking, backpacking, fishing, rafting, and wilderness exploration.
