Challenger Point

Challenger Point rises to 14,087 feet in Colorado's Sangre de Cristo Range and forms part of the dramatic high-alpine landscape surrounding the Crestones. Named in memory of the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger, the peak occupies the western side of the range above Willow Creek and is often climbed in combination with neighboring Kit Carson Peak. Steep couloirs, rugged cliffs, and expansive alpine basins characterize the mountain's terrain, while the surrounding wilderness provides habitat for bighorn sheep, marmots, and other species adapted to Colorado's high elevations.
