Galloo Island Lighthouse
Galloo Island Lighthouse stands on Galloo Island near the eastern end of Lake Ontario, New York. Completed in 1870, the limestone tower was built to guide vessels navigating the busy shipping routes connecting the Great Lakes with the St. Lawrence River. Situated on a remote island known for strong winds, open water, and challenging navigation conditions, the lighthouse played an important role in safeguarding maritime traffic across Lake Ontario. Today, it remains a striking landmark and a reminder of the region's rich Great Lakes heritage.
This vintage-inspired Galloo Island Lighthouse print celebrates one of Lake Ontario's most historic offshore beacons. Drawing inspiration from the bold colors and simplified forms of WPA-era travel posters, the artwork highlights the lighthouse's sturdy stone tower, isolated island setting, and expansive freshwater horizon. Designed for lighthouse enthusiasts, Great Lakes travelers, maritime historians, and collectors of American landmarks, this piece captures the rugged beauty and enduring character of a lighthouse that has watched over Lake Ontario for more than 150 years.
