Hunting Island Lighthouse

Hunting Island Lighthouse stands within Hunting Island State Park on South Carolina's Atlantic coast near Beaufort. First lit in 1875, the black-and-white tower was constructed in sections of cast iron, allowing it to be dismantled and relocated when coastal erosion threatened its original site. Rising above maritime forests, salt marshes, and barrier island beaches, the lighthouse offers sweeping views of one of the state's most scenic coastal landscapes. Today, it is the only publicly accessible lighthouse in South Carolina and one of the state's most recognizable landmarks.
