Prudence Island Lighthouse

Prudence Island Lighthouse, commonly known as Sandy Point Lighthouse, stands on the southern tip of Prudence Island in Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island. Completed in 1851, the granite lighthouse was built to guide vessels navigating the busy shipping lanes of Narragansett Bay and the approaches to Providence Harbor. Positioned on a narrow stretch of shoreline surrounded by tidal waters and coastal habitat, the lighthouse played an important role in supporting maritime commerce throughout southern New England. Today, it remains one of Rhode Island's most recognizable historic beacons.
